The basic laundry items are water, detergent and bleach. Bleach is useful for stain removal but must be added to the wash with caution because it can cause clothes to shrink or fade if used in excessive amounts. Detergent is a powder or liquid that mixes with water to remove dirt and stains from cloth. Different detergents are formulated for different types of fabric and have a range of features such as color-safe bleach, whiteners, fabric softeners and mild formulas for delicates.

What is laundry items?

Laundry may be done by hand or with washers and dryers. Most people do their laundry once or twice a week. Some prefer to do it more often with laundry delivery service. A clothes hamper is a container that holds dirty laundry until it’s ready to be washed. Clothes hampers come in a variety of sizes and designs. Some are divided into sections to allow for the separation of whites, darks, and colors.

The 19th century saw the development of various mechanized washing machines to replace hand rubbing against a washboard, including a mangle that was a series of long rollers in a frame with a crank to revolve them. The cranked machine compressed the cloth, pressing out much of the excess water. This helped the cloth retain its shape and reduced wrinkling. Later, the mangle was replaced by a perforated double tub that spun out the water in a spin cycle.

A drying rack is another common laundry item that can be a freestanding or wall-mounted unit. Some people use a clothesline or hang their laundry in the sun to avoid chemicals from commercial clothing dryers.
